Enderby City Hall Resumes Normal Service

Enderby City Hall is resuming its normal operations and open hours as of September 1, 2020. Remote service options continue to be available through email and telephone, in addition to in-person front counter service. A thorough sanitation has occurred in the meantime.

City Hall’s operations were impacted after a number of staff had to self-isolate following contact with a person who attended a meeting and later tested positive for COVID-19, along with all other persons who attended the same meeting. Given the City’s small workforce, there were insufficient staff to keep the doors open to the public.

No person who attended the meeting developed symptoms during the self-isolation period that is now ending. It is the City’s understanding that all who were deemed a contact risk have been cleared to end their self-isolation as of midnight on August 31, 2020.

Safety protocols were in place at the time of the meeting, including physical distancing requirements, occupancy limits and restricted attendance, screening for prohibited persons, enhanced sanitation and hygiene, and more.

The safety protocols may have helped to prevent the spread of the virus and assisted with contact tracing, but they do not remove the requirement to self-isolate after being exposed to a person who tests positive for COVID-19. Even if testing comes back negative or no symptoms develop, self-isolation must still occur for the incubation period of the virus if there is a contact risk.

Due to the impact of mandatory self-isolation upon the affected individuals and the organization as a whole, there will be changes to the September meeting schedule to implement a new electronic meeting system, which will replace in-person Council meetings and hearings for the foreseeable future.

The City expresses its appreciation to its staff, elected officials, and others who were in the meeting and self-isolated. Its well wishes are with the person who tested positive. As well, the City would like to thank the many residents and others who reached out to offer support.
