On Tuesday, August 11, Neil Fidler accepted a Lifetime Civic Merit Award from City of Enderby Mayor and Council to a packed gallery inside the Enderby Arts Centre.

Mayor Huck Galbraith recognized Neil “for his contributions to community spirit in the arts, business and culture.”

Neil summarized his commitment to Enderby perfectly in his acceptance speech:

"We moved to Enderby 22 years ago and one of the first things I did was join the Garden Club...Things just took off and got out of control. I once had signing authority for four different organizations in town."

The crowd laughed loudly, as he continued, "I've scaled back a lot. I'm still here and I hope to be still doing this for awhile yet."

"We hope so too!" shouted a voice from the gallery.

When Neil volunteers for a cause or organization that matters to him, he goes all in:

He's served as Secretary, Treasurer, and Board Member of the Enderby & District Garden Club.
He was on the Enderby in Bloom Committee.
He has held the roles of Board Member, Secretary, and President (on two occasions) for the Enderby & District Arts Council.
He's been on the Board of the Enderby Chamber of Commerce, and has been Chair of the Christmas Committee.

The location of the award presentation was particularly significant and meaningful.

The presentation was held in the gallery of Enderby Arts Centre (617 Cliff Avenue), which Georgia Atwood, current president of the Enderby & District Arts Council (EDAC) shed light on in her own speech.

"[The Centre] was his idea. He came up with the plan and then he put a bunch of us to work, and look, we're still here after five years and I have to say a lot of it has to do with Neil."

Neil expanded on the detail of his volunteerism in Enderby with a written bio, "After retiring from Canada Post in 2004, my wife and I moved to Enderby and quickly fell in love with the community."

"Its welcoming spirit inspired me to become actively involved, and I have been proud to contribute to the organizations that help make Enderby such a vibrant place to live."

"My years of volunteering have been driven by a commitment to strengthening the community, supporting local arts and culture, and helping make Enderby an even better place to live."

Lifetime Civic Merit Award recipients are nominated by members of Council and must receive a unanimous vote.

Dear Enderby and District community members:

Be Vigilant.

Conditions across our region are extremely dry and the potential for a human-caused wildfire is very real. I am asking everyone in our community to take a few extra moments to think about the activities we are doing outdoors.

The BC Wildfire Service continues to emphasize the importance of preventing human-caused wildfires. Human-caused fires are preventable - in these conditions, a small mistake can quickly become a serious incident. With that in mind, we are asking our community to think twice before doing anything that could create heat, sparks or ignition.

• ATV and off-road vehicle use in the backcountry - Hot exhaust systems, brakes and mechanical components can ignite extremely dry vegetation.

• Grinding, welding and cutting metal outdoors - sparks can travel farther than you think.

• Weed-whacking and brush cutting - contact with rocks, metal or other debris can create sparks, while hot equipment can ignite dry grass.

• Lawn mowing - be particularly cautious in dry grass and around rocks, fences, ditches and other combustible vegetation.

• Chainsaws and other small engines - make sure equipment is properly maintained and that you are following all applicable restrictions and requirements.

• Any activity involving flame, heat or sparks - stop and consider the potential consequences before you begin.

If you see smoke or a fire, don't assume someone else has reported it. Report it immediately by calling 1 (800) 663-5555 or (*5555 from a cell phone) as soon as possible.

Be Prepared.

Don't wait for an evacuation order.

While we all hope we never have to evacuate our homes, wildfire conditions can change very quickly.

• An evacuation alert or order can sometimes come with very little notice.

• Please take the time now to make a plan.

• Know where you would go.

• Know how you would get there.

• Have a Grab-and-Go Bag ready.

• If you have livestock or animals, have a plan for them as well.

Our Department is Ready.

I want to assure the residents of Enderby and our surrounding area that your fire department remains on guard and ready to respond.

And just as our neighbours stand ready to support Enderby, we stand ready to support them.

• Since Saturday, August 1, members of the Enderby & District Fire Department have been deployed to the Bradley Creek wildfire (K41351) as part of a Structure Protection Task Force.

• Today, members of our department were mobilized again to support the Structure Protection Task Force at the Quilpituk Creek wildfire (K51402).

When we deploy firefighters outside our area, we do so very deliberately.  We continually assess several factors - including current incidents, available personnel, equipment, wildfire conditions, forecast conditions and the level of protection required within our own response area.  Our responsibility is first and foremost to protect our community at home.

We work closely with our neighbouring regional fire departments and rely on the strength of our mutual-aid partnerships to ensure that our community continues to have emergency response coverage no matter what comes our way.

Teamwork.

The past week has been a powerful example of what can happen when firefighters, BC Wildfire Service, structure protection crews, emergency management teams, RCMP, ambulance personnel, search and rescue teams, heavy equipment operators, volunteers and countless support personnel come together with one common purpose:

• Protecting people, homes and communities.

• Wildfire doesn't recognize municipal boundaries.

• Neither does the fire service.

• When a community needs help, we answer.

• And when our community needs help, our neighbours answer.

Thank you for your unwavering dedication to this department.

Thank you for your willingness to serve.

Thank you for putting the safety of our community ahead of yourselves.

The City of Enderby extends its gratitude to the members of the Enderby & District Fire Department for their dedication, professionalism, and courage throughout the 2026 wildfire season.

While continuing to provide round-the-clock protection for our community, many of our firefighters and apparatus have also been deployed to assist other communities, including most recently at the Bradley Creek wildfire. At every deployment, their skill and commitment have played an essential role in protecting homes, supporting communities, and helping limit the spread of wildfire.

Wildfire response demands long hours, difficult conditions, and time away from loved ones. It also depends on the dedication and teamwork of the firefighters who remain behind, providing unwavering protection for our own community while supporting their colleagues on deployment.  A special acknowledgement is also extended to the families of our firefighters – you are the rock behind our firefighters, and we recognize and appreciate your own sacrifice.

Throughout this challenging season, our firefighters have answered the call with exceptional commitment and service.  There is still much work ahead this wildfire season. However, we are fortunate to have an outstanding team protecting our community and supporting neighbouring communities when called upon.

Enderby’s Friday Night Lights returns Friday, August 21, 2026, as rockabilly music and classic cars flood the downtown core. The aroma of mouth-watering food wafting in the air.

Enderby’s signature, one-night-only classic car show and summer festival runs 5pm-8pm on Cliff Avenue, Belvedere Street and Russell Avenue.

CAR SHOW REGISTRATION (3pm-4:30pm)

We close roads and parking lots throughout the downtown core to showcase more than 200 vintage cars and trucks. If you have a beauty that deserves its night on the town, registration is free.

STAGING AREA (Maud St. & Mill Ave.)
All vintage/classic vehicles will cycle through one central staging area in the Maud Street Parking Lot between 3pm and 4:30pm)

Accessing the Staging Area:
1. Turn off George Street/Highway 97A, heading east on Mill Avenue.
2. Turn right into the Maud Street Parking Lot, which serves as the central staging area for Friday Night Lights.
3. Expert car show volunteers will direct you to you parking location and help you park with ease.

Parking is first-come, first-served.

Beginning Friday, July 24, at 12:01am, all properties connected to the City of Enderby drinking water system must follow Stage 2 water restrictions.

Stage 2 water restrictions are required to manage demands placed on the drinking water system, so that there is adequate capacity for essential and emergency needs.

During Stage 2 water restrictions, odd-numbered civic addresses may water on Tuesday and Saturday and even-numbered civic addresses may water on Wednesday and Sunday.

On a permitted watering day, watering may occur for a maximum of two hours per day, between 6-9am and 6-9pm.  The same applies to underground irrigation, except that it may only occur between 12am-6am.

Additional watering days are provided for drip irrigation and hand watering of lawns, landscaping, plants, trees, shrubs and flowers, as well as watering that is related to food security.

If required, further water conservation measures will be announced on the City’s website, social media, digital sign, and media.

The City of Enderby is implementing a campfire ban effective at noon on Friday, July 10, 2026. This ban is in addition to the prohibition on open burning that took effect on May 7, 2026, and now includes:

• campfires;
• open burning (all);
• fireworks;
• sky lanterns;
• burn barrels or burn cages;
• binary exploding targets;
• tiki and similar kinds of torches;
• chimineas;
• air curtain burners; and
• Wood fired hot tubs, wood fired pizza ovens and other wood fired devices unless vented through a structure that has a flue and is incorporated in a building

This prohibition does not include outdoor stoves provided they are a CSA-rated or ULC-rated device used outdoors for cooking, heat or ambiance that burns charcoal briquettes, liquid fuel or gaseous fuel, and has a flame height that is less than 15 cm tall.

The ban applies to the City of Enderby and the Shuswap River Fire Protection District. The ban is consistent with the Kamloops Fire Centre's prohibition.

This prohibition is in effect until the Kamloops Fire Centre rescinds its ban, unless notice is provided otherwise.

Council for City of Enderby has declared July 19-25 2026 as National Drowning Prevention Week in Enderby.

National Drowning Prevention Week is a Canada-wide initiative dedicated to raising awareness about water safety, reducing drowning incidents, and promoting lifesaving education and skills.

Drowning remains a significant public health concern and is one of the leading causes of preventable injury-related death. Through education and awareness, communities can help reduce the risk of drowning and encourage safer behaviours around water.

Canada Day 2026 in Enderby was a breathtaking day.

More than 7000 people from across Enderby & District, and around the Okanagan and Shuswap celebrated the many, many offerings in Enderby.

Well-attended from the early morning Lions Pancake Breakfast to the Parade, then Classic Car Show to endless festivities at Riverside Park and free swimming at the Enderby Outdoor Pool to the fireworks night cap.

This bylaw is associated with a Rezoning/Zoning Text Amendment application for the property legally described as LOT 2 SECTIONS 27 AND 34 TOWNSHIP 18 RANGE 9 WEST OF THE 6TH MERIDIAN KAMLOOPS DIVISION YALE DISTRICT PLAN 14569 EXCEPT: (1) PARCEL A (269265F) (2) PLANS 17061 AND 28067, and located at 149 West Enderby Road, Enderby BC. This bylaw proposes to rezone the subject property from the Country Residential (C.R) zone to the Residential Single Family (R.1-A) zone. The Bylaw also proposes to permit an accessory residential building to be sited and used on the subject property in the absence of a principal building. Pursuant to Sections 464 (3) and 467 of the Local Government Act, the City of Enderby is prohibited from holding a public hearing for this bylaw and is providing notice of its consideration and that written submissions will be accepted.

Bylaw No. 1834, 2026 proposes to amend the City of Enderby Official Community Plan Bylaw No. 1549, 2014 to align housing policies with provincial housing legislation (Bill 44) and the City's Interim Housing Needs Report, including updated housing objectives and policies, revised permitted housing forms in residential areas, and updated statutory references.
