The City of Enderby is undertaking a recruitment drive for its Citizens on Patrol program, and is looking for additional volunteers who want to make a positive impact in the community.
“In 2017 we launched the Citizens on Patrol program to provide another tool to help deter and prevent criminal activity in our community. We are now looking for additional volunteers to bolster the program even further,” explains Mayor Greg McCune, “This will increase our coverage and, through our volunteers, empower the community to reduce crime.”
Citizens on Patrol is a way for local volunteers to serve as “eyes and ears” to help spot crime or other suspicious activity in the community. The program is delivered by the City of Enderby.
“The program involves teams patrolling the community in marked vehicles, in order to observe and report any activity that may require police presence or could aid the RCMP in their ongoing or future investigations,” explains Susan Ruck, Citizens on Patrol Volunteer Coordinator. “We are hoping to build up our roster of volunteers so that we can schedule more patrols and make an even bigger impact in reducing and deterring crime.”
“This program really demonstrates how much our residents care about the safety and well-being of the community. The presence of Citizens on Patrol volunteers will make criminals think twice about breaking the law in our community, and that can have a very powerful impact,” explains Mayor McCune.
Interested volunteers may apply by filling out an application at www.cityofenderby.com/cop. Applicants are encouraged to submit their applications before January 31, 2019 in order to coordinate the training. All volunteers must consent to disclosure of a Police Information Check and other background verification measures.
