Enderby Campfire Ban Rescinded Effective Noon, September 7, 2018

Enderby has announced that will lift its campfire ban as of noon on September 7, 2018. This applies within the City of Enderby and the Shuswap River Fire Protection District.

“With recent precipitation and cooler temperatures, and more of that forecast to continue, the hazard has been reduced and the campfire ban is being lifted,” said Enderby & District Fire Chief Cliff Vetter. “Despite this, the public is asked take safety precautions if they choose to have a campfire. All campfires should be conducted in accordance with relevant bylaws and regulations.”

If you choose to have a campfire, please ensure that a responsible person is in charge at all times, it is fully extinguished before you leave the area, adequate water and a hand tool is kept nearby for fire suppression, and a fuel break is created around the perimeter of the campfire that is free of combustibles.

Within the City of Enderby, there are general prohibitions on campfires as well as regulations on outdoor fireplaces that must be followed even after the campfire ban ends. These restrictions are contained in its Good Neighbour Bylaw. An outdoor fireplace must be a secured, CSA approved container using seasoned wood, charcoal briquettes, propane or natural gas, and used only for providing light or heat or cooking food. These additional regulations only apply within City limits, and do not apply to the Shuswap River Fire Protection District.
