Weytk,
Splatsin and the City of Enderby stand united in calling for action in response to the ongoing crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2-Spirited individuals (MMIWG2S).
Tragedies across Canada and our communities — including the violence connected to the Sagmoen property and the devastating impacts of the opioid crisis in our communities — highlight the urgent need for coordinated action and criminal justice reform to address public safety, systemic inequalities, and intergenerational trauma. Indigenous women, girls, and 2-Spirited individuals must be protected, valued, and never forgotten.
We jointly call for:
- Immediate strengthening of supports for grassroots, survivor-led initiatives focused on healing, justice, and public safety.
- Criminal justice reform and increased, sustained resources to combat organized crime and the opioid crisis affecting Indigenous and neighbouring communities.
- Strengthened collaboration between Indigenous, municipal, provincial, and federal governments to deliver systemic change to prevent tragedies and bring justice to those we have lost.
We encourage all community members to stand in solidarity by attending the Calling All Nations & Allies: MMIWG2S Gathering on May 1, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the Splatsin Community Centre (5767 Old Vernon Road, Enderby, BC). This important grassroots event will honour the lives of Deanna Wertz, Traci Generaux, Caitlin Potts, and countless others whose memories demand action, not silence.
Splatsin and the City of Enderby are committed to working together to build safer, stronger communities where the lives of Indigenous women, girls, and 2-Spirited people are fully protected and respected. We call on all levels of government, institutions, and individuals to join us in demanding the justice and systemic change that is long overdue.
The time for action is now. Every life matters. Every voice counts.
