Enderby City Council, Community Futures North Okanagan and the Enderby & District Chamber of Commerce will once again celebrate Small Business Week by hosting a local Business Walk.

The Business Walk will take place during Small Business Week on Thursday, October 23, 2025 from 10am to 12pm.

“The Business Walk is one of the most valuable ways for us to connect with the people who drive our local economy – our business community,” says Mayor Huck Galbraith. “These conversations take us to the front line so that we can learn about the successes, opportunities, and barriers of local businesses, and work to connect them to supports and solutions.”

Business Walks provide elected officials and business support organizations with a dedicated opportunity to listen to the business community.

Business owners will be asked a set of questions which will give information about the local economy, how it is changing, and opportunities to grow.

“The Business Walk allows us to listen and collaborate with Enderby’s enthusiastic entrepreneurs in real time,” shares Hal Mueller, Business Advisor with Community Futures North Okanagan. “When local businesses succeed, the entire community grows stronger. That’s what we’re here to help make happen.”

The City of Enderby is issuing a Request for Quotations from qualified vendors to provide one (1) new 2023 or 2024 model year heavy-duty pickup truck, such as a Ford F-350 Super Duty or equivalent.

The vehicle will be used as a command/utility vehicle for the Enderby & District Fire Department. The vehicle will be used to transport structural protection units, staff, and equipment to and from fire incident scenes.

Preferred delivery is by May 15, 2024. However, later dates will be considered.

Attention Enderby Businesses!  The City of Enderby is offering some new initiatives to aid your economic recovery from the pandemic. We want to help you let your customers know that you are open for business!

Two of these initiatives are temporarily allowing businesses to advertise for up to two weeks on the community digital billboard, and temporarily allowing restaurants and retail stores not located along the highway to place a sandwich board on the sidewalk of the Highway 97A corridor! 

The business eligibility requirements for these initiatives is as follows:

Business Marketing on Community Digital Billboard

• Must have a commercial storefront within Enderby city limits;
• Must hold a valid City of Enderby Business License; and
• Local businesses within Enderby city limits who do not have a commercial storefront may make a written request to be included as an Eligible Business, which will be considered on the basis of demonstrated financial impact, potential to aid recovery, and strength of participation from local businesses with commercial storefronts.
• Application required; subject to the normal terms and conditions of using the Digital Billboard, except that business marketing is temporarily permitted.

Highway Sandwich Boards

• Must be a retail store or restaurant;
• Must have a commercial storefront within Enderby city limits;
• Must hold a valid City of Enderby Business License; and
• Other businesses with a commercial storefront in Enderby which are not a retail store or restaurant, may make a written request to be included as an Eligible Business, which will be considered on the basis of demonstrated financial impact, potential to aid recovery, and strength of participation from the restaurant and retail sector.
• Application must be approved; subject to the normal terms and conditions of sidewalk encroachments, except that nonadjacent businesses are temporarily permitted to place a sandwich board sign in an agreed-upon location.

Whereas the Province of BC has expressed its intent to create a regulatory framework that permits ridesharing services and transportation network companies to operate in BC;

And whereas the assessment of the possible impacts of allowing new entrants into the passenger transportation field has focused primarily on large urban communities with robust, established, passenger transportation options, which is often not the reality for small, rural, and remote communities where ridesharing and transportation networking offers uniquely viable solutions in the absence of other options:

Therefore be it resolved that UBCM ask the Province of BC to implement a viable, flexible, ride-sharing service regulation in BC with attention given to regulatory solutions that will help solve those passenger transportation challenges that are unique to small, rural, and remote communities.
