Jim Watt Heritage Riverwalk
Over the years, portions of the walk were constructed, and the riverbank was stabilized. In 1998 the Enderby Heritage Commission worked with the City of Enderby, and the Chamber of Commerce to develop a heritage walkway. Signs were created to depict the history of Enderby's heritage sites along the river. Community residents donated benches and picnic tables. Today the paved riverwalk extends from Belvidere Park through Riverside Park. Plans are being made to extend the walk south to the city boundary, with a bird-watching kiosk and more heritage signs.
The Jim Watt Riverwalk was named after a long-time resident of the area. Jim worked for the City of Enderby for thirty years and was actively involved with many community organizations. Residents could always count on meeting Jim every morning on his walk through the City. The Heritage Riverwalk dovetails nicely with the Heritage Walking Tour of Enderby, a pamphlet available at the Enderby Visitor InfoCentre and the Enderby Museum. |
