City of Enderby Mayor Howie Cyr

Mayor Cyr Discusses Enderby’s Major 2014 Initiatives

Folks, time has simply flown by and other than individual conversations Council and I have had with residents, or newspaper articles, there has been very little communication about where our City is and the plans we have for moving it forward, for many years to come: Although our Staff utilizes the Our Enderby page on Facebook, it occurs to me that many of you might not routinely access this function. We have, with the help of many of you, embarked upon an aggressive planning process which will result in a plan for future growth. The plan will help us create a sustainable community, economically, socially and environmentally. You can well imagine the extent of this process, because we have essentially looked at every segment of our community. We want to be positioned to be sustainable for decades to come, so our scrutiny has been very broad.

This process also has been about examining how we as a community do business, how we can attract new business, and how we can do a better job of supporting those who already are here. This is by no means an easy task, but we have all been up for the task. In addition to the work we have done on this major project, funded by a Gas Tax grant, we have worked very hard to try and stay ahead of the curve when addressing infrastructure needs. Council and I have been supported by an outstanding crew at City Hall, and through careful management of our fiscal resources, successfully applying for grants and ensuring we kept our reserves in a healthy state, we have managed to accomplish some very significant things. The most recent one has been securing some $700,000 in grant monies to assist in our Flood Protection efforts, something that will assist us in preventing flooding that has occurred in the downtown area and affected businesses and residences alike. Had we not placed funds in reserves, to fulfill our contribution, this grant would not have occurred.

We have much to look forward to in our City, as the economy continues to improve. In the near future you will see and hear of the results of our efforts to stimulate our community. We can be proud of the fact we have an excellent working relationship with all of our neighbours and collectively we recognize the importance of those relationships, in everything we do. I will try to keep in touch with you all on a more frequent basis, but in the meantime please let us know if you have an idea which you feel will enhance the great things we can celebrate locally.

Best Regards

Howie
